Richard Carrillo was Born and Raised in Belen, New Mexico to Ermilo and Marcella Carrillo, his father worked as an Engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad while his mother was a "stay at home mom" raising Richard and his brothers which included going to football and baseball games they participated in.
She was an advocate towards their education and safety in their hometown. Although Richard’s duties at home kept him very busy, involving feeding and cleaning after the animals on the farm, this did not hinder his community efforts, which began at a very young age. This led Richard and his siblings to becoming actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America.
As a young child growing up, Richard worked on go-carts, mini-bikes and motorcycles. Being very mechanically inclined and excelling in high school in Automotive class, he chose a career in the Air conditioning Refrigeration field.
At the age of 15, Richard’s hard work began by emptying trash cans and sweeping the front steps of a convenience store, later in the day after school he would return to restock shelves, truly making him understand the value of a dollar.
As the years progressed through High School, so did Richard. He took a position at the local hamburger establishment in New Mexico as a fry-cook, and in a short time he was the acting manager during management’s absence teaching him responsibility.
No stranger to working hard to learning and earning a living. Paying his way through trade school at the Universal Technical Institute, while working full time at Sears as a mechanic. Richard met his wife of 21 years , Annette, through a mutual friend who at the time was a single mother of a beautiful daughter named Heather whom he adopted.
Richard volunteers through his Union’s Local Community Action program helping seniors that are on fixed incomes with their Air Conditioning and heating problems. "Too often our seniors in our community go with out because of their limited resources, Sometimes you just need a little help"
Richard is a natural in helping his neighbors, reaching out to new neighbors as they moved into his community. This inspired him to become a board member of his HOA and later becoming the President.
